I live in a rural area and originally had AT&T internet service, but the connection was unreliable. To compare, I had Spectrum installed, and it was immediately a much more reliable service.
When I decided to disconnect my AT&T service, I went online to try to cancel, but I couldn’t find any clear option to do so. I ended up calling their 1-800 service number, thinking it would be a simple process. Instead, the representative spent most of the call trying to sell me other services rather than helping me cancel.
It took far too long for her to finally understand that I was only calling to stop my service — no upgrades, no bundles, just cancel. She eventually said she would send me an email to confirm our conversation, but she refused to actually write in the email that I had requested to disconnect my service. All she would say was that I needed to return my equipment to AT&T.
The whole process felt unnecessarily difficult and uncomfortable. Instead of making it easy for a long-time customer to move on, they turned it into a frustrating experience. I wouldn’t recommend AT&T if you’re in a rural area, and based on my experience, I’d caution anyone about how hard it is to cancel service with them.
